So, John McCain has picked his VP. I can’t say that it’s the best pick or even a reasonable pick. In fact, it’s a straight up shot at the woman vote and little else. Sure, Sara Palin is a strong woman, but she’s very inexperienced in politics, serving as the mayor of a 8000 person town before becoming governor of Alaska (an office which she’s held for only two years). She’s a hockey mom and a NRA member. She’s also a former beauty queen.
Let’s see…relative lack of experience-check, drives minivan or other large hockey/soccer mom vehicle-check, shoots guns-check, former beauty queen-check. Yup, she’s a republican’s wet dream. Well, she’s a non-closet homosexual republican’s wet dream. If McCain really wanted to get that closeted republican/conservative/evangelical vote, he would have chosen Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, he’s cute!
But back to Mrs. Palin. Honestly, what does McCain think she’s going to bring to the ticket aside from capturing the sentimental vote of women and the mysoginist vote of men? Picking her essentially clears up any attacks on Obama’s experience and bascially dooms this woman to getting destroyed by Joe Biden in every debate, policy-wise. I’m certainly no sexist, but there is no way that anyone with two years of experiecne in state politics knows more about foreign or even domestic issues than a 65 year old who has been an elected official since he was 30 and has held seats on various important committees over the years.
I hate to say it, but this pick is pretty transparent for McCain. Follow me for a second. His first wife was a swimsuit model, his second wife was a beauty queen and now he picks a VP who was a beauty queen? Seems to be a pattern there, doesn’t there? Seems like John McCain, after a life of marrying trophy wives, has himself a trophy pick for VP. It’s a damn shame that he couldn’t reach beyond his stereotype.
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m completely sure that Sarah Palin is a very intelligent, capable woman. I mean, she’s a governor, so she’s obviously no idiot. But this is simply a transparent grab at the woman vote, as well as finding a youthful, vibrant counterpart to the cancer-scarred, broken-down old man that is John McCain. It’s a fucking shame.
