Sod Resents Not Being Invited to NBA All-Star Weekend

Not to take anything away from Kevin Garnett or Lebron James or even Kobe Bryant, but we here at Sodblog strongly believe that we deserved an invitation to the NBA All-Star game. We’ve had a pretty damn good year, stats-wise and frankly, we expected to be rewarded for all of the success we’ve had. We worked hard for it, too. All those early mornings at the gym, working on our game, willing ourselves to be better players. So, to be excluded from the All-Star game is a slap in the face.

Look, we get it, we’re not the typical NBA All-Star candidate. We’re not superior athletes, we’re not highly-paid professionals, we’re just a bunch of white kids from the midwest. Heck, we’re not even an individual, but are instead a group of people. Not exactly an easy choice for voters to check on their All-Star ballots.

Regardless, we still feel shafted. Collectively, we’re a fierce dunker, excellent defender and our aggregate shooting percentage is certainly on par with the rest of the players voted in. Physically, all of us put together are certainly as much of an athlete as even Lebron James. Probably.

The least that they could have done is invite us to participate in the H-O-R-S-E competition on Saturday night. Anyone can play H-O-R-S-E and I’m fully convinced that we could totally school players like Andres Biendrens or Shaq in a game of H-O-R-S-E. We could at least make it competitive.

Admittedly, we’re not in the prime of our career. But that doesn’t mean that we’re not still competitive on the court. We have court-savvy and old-man tricks that make us much more difficult to guard than when we were young bucks driving to the hole every single time we got our hands on the rock.

Larry Bird could still shoot the lights out late in his career. Michael Jordan could still hit that fade-away jumper as he got older. Magic could still dish out assists when he still had AIDS. We at Sod are no different. We still got game. By not inviting us to the All-Star game, the NBA is missing out on all that we have to offer. Their loss. I’m sure that their rating will suffer for not inviting three white guys to particpate as one NBA All-Star.
