As you might already know, this is primarily a North Dakota-based blog (except for Nate, who resides in Portland, but who is originally from the area). With that in mind, I don’t think it should come as much of a surprise that Fargo is very much on our minds right now.
I spent 2.5 years living in Fargo while I went to college at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Those were really good years that I still remember fondly. It was odd being away from home, yet Fargo never really failed to feel like another home to me. Even though I haven’t lived there for over five years now, I still feel a strong connection with the area. It’s a great city, with great people, and right now I feel for all of them.
I’m worried right now for my sister and her husband, who are fighting to keep both their home and their hometown safe. I’m thinking of the people who work at the Fargo Kmart, where I used to work, and hoping that the flooding isn’t already bad in that area of town. I’m scared for all the people I met in Fargo, and praying that despite the way things look right now, everything will work out somehow.
I guess what I’m asking is that right now, if you’re reading this, just say a prayer tonight that this country won’t lose another great city to the waters. If you’re in Fargo, don’t stop fighting. I know what it’s like to be a North Dakotan. I see that same spirit everywhere I go. We don’t quit. We don’t relent. If we did, we wouldn’t live in a state that gets as cold as this one. This is our state, and by God, we do what we need to in order to keep it that way.
If there’s any city that stand against what’s coming, it’s Fargo. God keep you safe.
