Has Dave Grohl done anything relevant since 1995? This question has plagued me since, well 1996. I really want to like Foo Fighters, believe me I do. But for the life of me I can’t bring myself to like anything they’ve done since the first post-Nirvana album way back when. I should like Dave, and I think as a human being I do, but I swear to Christ as soon as he picks up that acoustic guitar and does solo renditions of “My Hero” and “February Stars” I feel completley helpless in my disgust. The man is a rock legend but he seems to have relegated himself to writing complete shit for music. The latest I’ve heard on the radio (or rundfunk as they say in Germany) is a cover of “Band on the Run” the timeless Paul McCartney classic. As much as I like that song (and I do, as it’s a pretty good tune for a Paul song) I get the feeling that Dave Grohl is aping himself aping Paul McCartney aping Paul McCartney and that’s not a typo.
